Students Recognized by IRS for Volunteer Service

This spring Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) students offered free tax preparation services to local residents. The student volunteers were trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. The VITA volunteers provided free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. The students were presented a Community Service Certificate from the Internal Revenue Service and Certificate of Service Learning Participation from MCTC.
