Collazo Earns Maysville Branch AAUW STEM Award

A key initiative of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is to encourage young women to pursue classes and prepare for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). In concert with this initiative, the Maysville Branch of AAUW has established a STEM award recognizing a female student at Maysville Community and Technical College in a STEM related program. This competitive recognition will provide the student with a $375 stipend to continue her education to MCTC. The Maysville branch solicited applications from MCTC students and have selected Ms. Suzanne Collazo as the 2010 recipient of the AAUW STEM Award. Collazo is originally from Florida and was home schooled. She now resides in Mt. Olivet, KY with her husband James who is also a student at MCTC. Collazo has a 4.0 GPA. She is a member and officer of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, Phi Beta Lambda, the Math and Science Club and a Student Ambassador. Collazo is working toward an associate in science at MCTC and will be transferring to the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2010 where she plans to major in psychology. Collazos career goal is to become a doctor of psychiatry.
