NEW ONLINE PLASTICS COURSES DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE PLASTICS PROCESSES AND INDUSTRY
Dr. Sitaram Rampalli (RAM), Principal and President at Polyplast Consultants International, Inc., in partnership with Maysville Community and Technical College, will be leading two online Plastics courses during the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 academic semesters.
Plastics Processes and Materials (PL 101) will introduce polymer chemistry, polymer processing, thermoplastics, and the properties and manufacturing processes of plastics in addition to health, safety and business considerations in the commercial production of plastic products. This course will begin August 19, 2013.
Polymer Science and Testing (PL 151) will examine molecular structures and their effects on mechanical, chemical and physical properties. Topics will include commodity and engineering thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers. This course will begin January 13, 2014.
Both courses have been allotted 4 credit hours. The course fee for each is $144 per credit hour and does not include the cost of the textbook.
Dr. Rampalli has been actively involved in the area of applied polymer science for the past 30 years. He has also developed and presented courses, live seminars and webinars on several important topics such as, degradation, stabilization and failure analysis of polymers, flame retardant plastics and thermal methods of polymer characterization. Dr. Rampalli is a senior member of the Society of Plastics Engineers and a member of American Chemical Society (ACS).
As the third largest manufacturing industry in the U.S., employing nearly 1 million workers, the plastics industry creates $374 billion in annual shipments. Plastics are responsible for countless facets of the modern life we enjoy today.
