MCTC GRADUATE NAMED NURSE OF THE YEAR
Maysville, KY (July 20, 2011). Eastern State Hospital in Lexington has recognized Melissa Grimm as the 2011 RN of the Year. Melissa is a graduate of Maysville Community and Technical College. The award was presented to Melissa at the RN/LPN/MHA of the Year Banquet on May 12th. This banquet was held in celebration of National Nurses Week, which is recognized annually from May 6th to May 12th.
This award has been given out for the last 25 years, says Nurse Leader Marc Woods, BSN. The award was voted on by Melissas peers and she received the most votes by a landslide. Melissa has shown amazing leadership skills for someone with so little experience in such a short time. She truly models what a professional nurse looks like.
"MCTC changed my life, says Melissa. It made my dreams turn into reality. I received endless support from the nursing instructors and around the clock encouragement. I began working at Eastern State Hospital June 1st 2010 as an RN. I was nervous to start a new job but then recalled the information I was taught and the skills I had learned. May, 2011 I was honored to get the RN of the year award. I would like to thank MCTC for helping me with this great accomplishment."
Melissa is a lifelong resident of Flemingsburg where she lives with her husband, Charles, and children, Ashley, Chasity, Katelyn, Gauge and Xavier. She and her husband have also served as foster parents for the past five years and are currently caring for an eight month old baby girl. Melissa began her position as an RN with Eastern State Hospital in June 2010.
