Bass Tournament Provides Scholarships for MCTC Students
Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) has awarded memorial scholarships to 15 area students. The scholarships were funded by the Second Annual Friends of Cave Run Lake Memorial Bass Fishing Tournament, which was held on April 30th. The recipients were chosen from Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan counties and are enrolled as students at MCTC.
Some of the scholarship recipients include: Chantel Hodge and Levis Plummer of Owingsville, Regina Setters of Wellington, Clayton Howard and Sommer Smith of Frenchburg, Courtney Taul and Betty Odem of Mt. Sterling, Tara Vance of Grassy Creek, Bobbie Jo Wright of West Liberty, and Jacob Brown of Clearfield.
This is our second year to host the bass tournament and our first year to work with the Rowan campus of MCTC, said Friends of Cave Run committee member Billy Hough. This is a great partnership we have with MCTC and MSU and we are proud to provide scholarships for their students.
All of the entrance fees and sponsor donations from the tournament are set aside to fund the student scholarships.
Although the high water at the lake did affect the turnout we still had about 60 fishing boats in the tournament," said Workforce Solutions Business and Industry Liaison Mark Lambert.
Lambert served as coordinator of the tournament for MCTCs Rowan Campus. About fifteen faculty and staff members from MCTC also volunteered their time.
Tournament coordinators took the opportunity to recognize community members from the Cave Run Lake area who have passed away. Memorial plaques were presented to the family members of these individuals.
