The Associate in Science (AS) degree is designed to provide a strong science and math background for pre-professional programs such as pharmacy, allied health and veterinary medicine. The AS degree is typically completed in two years and is awarded when you complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of classes. AS degrees readily transfer to four-year institutions. The MCTC Transfer Center will work with you to ensure working with the MCTC Transfer Center and your desired university will ensure that each course you take will move you towards your desired bachelor's degree.

What is an Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS)?

The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree is designed for students who intend to enter the workforce immediately following graduation from their program. Most AAS degree programs require you to choose an area of emphasis or specialty early on in the program so you are adequately prepared for entry-level career positions within a specific field upon graduation. If your plans are to pursue a bachelors degree upon graduation, make sure that you contact the MCTC Transfer Center prior to AAS degree completion as some courses may not be eligible to transfer.

What is a Diploma?
Possibilities are endless with diplomas. They are shorter degrees that provide targeted occupational training to lead you directly to the workforce. If you have earned a certificate and would like continued training, a diploma is your next step. But why stop at a diploma? You can continue your education by applying the credits you have earned for your diploma towards an associate degree, which increases your opportunities to land a better paying job!

What is a Certificate?
Certificates are very short programs of study and often lead to a specific certification for employment. A certificate will provide you with skills that many employers consider necessary for an entry-level position. Many of the AAS degrees have these certificates included so you can receive certificates as you complete your degree.
