Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky is a different approach to teaching students who need help with foundational skills by mixing career training with additional support for math, writing, and reading inside and outside the classroom.

The goals of Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky are to:

 

  • Make it easier for students who need extra help to complete their education
  • Allow students who need to earn their GED to do so while they are also enrolled in college courses
  • Allow students to earn one or more certifications that help them get a better job now with a family sustaining wage
  • Allow students to earn college credit that leads to a degree in the future

Success Coach

The Success Coach can help you with:

  • Enrolling in Accelerating Opportunity

  • Developing plans for students to meet their goals

Career Coach

The purpose of the career coach is to help you get a good paying job once you earn your certificates through Accelerating Opportunity.

The Career Coach can help you with:

  • Job Search activities
  • Training Services
  • Career Exploration and counseling

Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky is open to anybody who needs additional help with:

  • Math
  • Reading and/or
  • Writing

In order to determine if this applies to you, you will need to take the TABE test (unless you have already taken it in the past six months).

 

How do I know if I need help with college math, reading, and writing?

  • If you have not earned your High School Diploma or GED
  • If you have your High School Diploma/GED but it has been a while since you went to school
  • If you took the COMPASS test and tested into developmental education

U.S. Dollar SignProgram Cost

Tuition for Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky is the same as any other college course: $147 per credit hour plus the $4 mandatory student fee.

You will most likely also have to pay for books and depending on the program you are interested in enrolling in, there may be additional costs or fees. Please contact the Program Coordinator to learn more about the cost for the program you are interested in.

Help with tuition:

Financial aid or other financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. The Accelerating Opportunity Coordinator can help you figure out the program costs and if you qualify for financial aid. If you don't qualify for financial aid, the Coordinator may be able to help you identify other ways you can get help with tuition.
