No child should die from a preventable disease like malaria.

MCTC is sponsoring the Project Malaria 5K RUN + WALK to raise money for the treatment and prevention of this deadly disease. All funds raised will go to Kabingo and Bethlehem, Uganda through Comboni Missionaries. Below you will find events and fundraisers that we will be hosting to help raise money for this cause.

  • Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
  • In 2013, malaria caused an estimated 584,000 deaths (with an uncertainty range of 367,000 to 755,000), mostly among African children.
  • Malaria is preventable and curable.
  • Increased malaria prevention and control measures are dramatically reducing the malaria burden in many places.
  • Non-immune travelers from malaria-free areas are very vulnerable to the disease when they get infected.

StarBaskets for Kabingo

image of colorful woven baskets handmade by the women of Kabingo that will be sold at the Project Malaria 5K Walk + Run

Through partnership with Hope for Kabingo, Sally Parker is offering these beautiful baskets, handmade by women in Kabingo. Kabingo is the same village in Uganda where Project Malaria funds are being sent. This area is extremely depressed and a large percentage of sales from the baskets will go back directly to these women and their families. The baskets will also be available for purchase at the Project Malaria 5k Walk + Run event on August 12th.

The baskets are made with natural materials such as grasses, palm and banana leaves and pine needles. The baskets are available for prices starting at $10 up to $30. Each basket has a tag that provides more information about the project, proceeds from the sales and shows the name of the artist. Supplies are limited so be sure to get yours from Sally Parker today!
