
Ashland, Gateway, and Maysville Community and Technical College libraries hosted the
first AA HWY Library Staff Conference on May 21 in Maysville. The theme, Road to Success,
aimed to bring together public, school, and academic libraries. Over 70 library staff
members from Boone to Bourbon to Boyd counties shared, collaborated and learned from
the featured workshops on How to Write a Book Review for the Newspaper, According
to Wikipedia: a Teaching Moment, Using Google Apps, Graphic Novels, Consumer Health
Resources, Social Networking, Romance Genre, and the The Lonesome Road of the Professional
Writer: Martha Bennett Stiles. Mr. Gurney Norman, Kentucky Poet Laureate, as the keynote
speaker shared his childhood experiences with books and emphasized the importance
of the care and instruction he received from the librarians in his life. Library staff
members also earned Kentucky Certification Renewal Points for each session attended.
A number of door prizes were distributed, rounding out a day long learning experience.
