Local HR professional credits knowledge, success to MCTC

Before starting her career in human resources, Kay Moss received a foundational education at Maysville Community and Technical College, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Accounting in 1997.

Moss also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a focus on Human Resources from Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Morehead State University (MSU).

“My time at MCTC provided an excellent foundation for my career. The curriculum was both challenging and relevant, and the professors genuinely cared about me as both a student and an individual,” said Moss.

According to Moss, the coursework she completed aligned well with industry standards- ultimately preparing her to enter the workforce.

“The software and tools we used were very similar to those used in industry, which helped make the transition to my career much smoother,” she added. “Looking back, I can honestly say that without the education and experience I gained at MCTC, I would not be where I am today.”

Currently, Moss serves as the Human Resources Manager at STOBER Drives, Inc. in Maysville, where she has been employed for 23 years. Frequently, she uses the skills and knowledge she gained at MCTC.

“My classes prepared me well for the realities of the business world and gave me a strong understanding of industry concepts and terminology that I still use today,” she said.

She discussed her overall experience at the college.

“MCTC provided an affordable, high-quality education and a supportive learning environment,” Moss said. “My advisor played an important role in helping me understand my degree requirements and creating a clear path to graduation. I feel very fortunate and grateful for the opportunity to have attended, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering their educational options.”

Moss noted the importance of utilizing every opportunity available to current and prospective students.

“Take advantage of every opportunity available to you. Build relationships with your instructors, ask questions, and don't be afraid to seek guidance from advisors and mentors. Focus on learning, not just earning a degree,” she said.

She continued, “The habits you develop, the skills you build, and the connections you make can open doors throughout your career. Remember that your education is an investment in yourself. Stay curious, keep learning, and never underestimate where a strong educational foundation can take you.”
