Maysville Community and Technical College recently celebrated 20 graduates of the Corrections Education Program at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) in Morgan County.

The individuals recognized were enrolled in the 2025-2026 academic year. In total, 22 degrees were awarded to the students.

“Celebrating these graduates was a powerful reminder of what is possible when determination meets opportunity. Many of these graduates will one day return to their families, workplaces, and communities, carrying with them not only a degree but also the confidence, knowledge, and hope to build a brighter future,” said Christy Kissick, acting director of the Corrections Education Program.

During the ceremony, graduates heard from EKCC Principal Steve Meadows, Kissick, State Rep. Richard White and Dr. Ryan Quarles, president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Gov. Andy Beshear also sent a video message congratulating the students on their achievement.

“Their accomplishments remind us that every person has value, every person can learn, and every person deserves the opportunity to grow, succeed, and make a positive impact on the world around them. I couldn't be prouder of these students,” Kissick said.

Quarles highlighted the impact of the Corrections Education Program and KCTCS’ commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the state.

“At KCTCS, we believe education changes lives and opens the door to second chances. These graduates have worked hard to earn credentials that can help them build meaningful careers after incarceration, support their families, and contribute to their communities and the Commonwealth. We are proud of their determination and excited for what comes next,” he said.

The graduates of the 2025-2026 academic year join a growing number of students who have completed postsecondary education through Kentucky’s correctional education programs.

Since the spring of 2023, MCTC has awarded 74 credentials to incarcerated individuals in the Corrections Education Program.

Each student has had the chance to gain skills and credentials that can support future employment and continued educational opportunities through the program.
