Laboratory results contribute to 70-80 percent of the diagnostic information used by healthcare providers to diagnose and treat disease.

Though MLT professionals do not always interact with patients directly, they continue to ensure high standards in diagnosis, treatment, and patient safety.

MCTC’s Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program trains many professionals to complete this vital role in the field.

“MLT is a very high-demand, high-wage field, with a variety of employment opportunities to consider. Most students have job offers before they even graduate from the program,” said Michelle Thoroughman, MLT program coordinator at MCTC.

The MLT program at MCTC is nationally accredited and provides hands-on training for students in performing a wide range of diagnostic tests that are essential in detecting, diagnosing, and monitoring disease.

Students in the program are exposed to real-world experiences in laboratory settings and areas including microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, serology, urinalysis, and clinical chemistry.

The curriculum includes a two-year associate degree in applied science, certificate options, over 400 hours of clinical experience in healthcare settings, and small class sizes with expert instruction.
