Jani, a student in the Ready to Work program, was nominated by one of MCTC’s student support specialists, Sherry Stacy. According to Stacy, Jani is the “epitome of a hard-working student.”

“As her college counselor through Student Support Services, I can honestly say that I have never had an unpleasant interaction with Carrie. She is generous with her smile and is always accommodating,” remarked Stacy.

As a non-traditional student, Jani has overcome various challenges, balancing her work, home, and student life every day. During the Spring 2025 semester, Jani experienced a house fire, which brought further difficulty to her life.

“During this time, I never heard her complain or use the fact that she lost everything as an excuse not to do her schoolwork,” Stacy said.

Jani will finish her degree at the end of the spring 2026 semester and plans to transfer to Morehead State University (MSU) in the fall to continue her education.

“Carrie is a good person who is kind to those around her. I consider her not only my student, but my friend,” Stacy concluded.
