Throughout April, May, and June, Maysville Community and Technical College will feature
12 students graduating in May 2025 who have committed to high-demand careers.
This is a Going Pro initiative, which strives to bring awareness to the possibilities unlocked as a traditional-age college student with little to no experience in the workforce.
With many different programs offered at MCTC, prospective students can enter the workforce right after finishing their credentials.
Allie Dungy, 21, is a student enrolled in the transfer degree program on the Maysville campus. Beginning her journey with MCTC in the fall of 2023, Dungy is currently seeking an associate in arts (AA) with a business focus.
When she first enrolled as a student, she was not sure of the path she wanted to take professionally. Dungy knew MCTC would be the best option to complete general education courses to later transfer to a four-year university for her bachelor’s degree.
“It was an easier way for me to get my gen eds. I wanted to focus on that. It also allowed me time to think about the future,” Dungy explained.
Participating in a co-op program during her senior year of high school, Dungy began her career at the People’s Bank of Kentucky in Flemingsburg in the fall of 2022.
Toni Shields, Dungy’s supervisor, spoke briefly about what it was like to hire a student who would go on to pursue their education full-time.
“It was great. We typically try to help anyone who’s going to college to further their career. Their schedules work with our schedules,” she said. “It’s been a good experience for both sides. It gives her some work experience under her belt, and she’s earning a paycheck. We look forward to any student who wants to try to apply and work their way through college.”
Shields noted the benefits of having extra help around the business.
