Logan BechananLogan Bechanan is Maysville Community and Technical College’s Alumnus of the Month. His story is one of ambition, celebrating his distinct path in the bourbon industry.

As a student at Nicholas County High School, Bechanan utilized MCTC’s Dual Credit courses to earn both an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science degree simultaneously in 2019. Without access to advanced placement (AP) courses, he relied on MCTC’s dual credit offerings to get a head start on his college education.

His credits were later transferred to the University of Kentucky, where Bechanan pursued his interest in distillation at the university’s Beam Institute.

“My dual credit classes from MCTC afforded me the opportunity to take classes at UK that I needed for distillation,” Bechanan shared. “It allowed me to go into the (James B.) Beam Institute there at UK and study and pursue what I was very, very interested in. I know I wouldn’t have had time to do so otherwise.”

Bechanan’s career began as vice president of a bourbon barrel hedge fund, where he managed investments in barrels and facilitated sales back to distillers after aging. The goal was to support smaller distillers by providing them with cost-effective options for barrels. Over time, he transitioned into the role of a master blender for Vincero Spirits.

Bechanan’s story serves as inspiration for those who feel drawn to a career path different from their family.

“Just because you’re not from a distilling family or a bourbon family doesn’t mean you can’t get into it,” he said. “I’m the only person in my family who isn’t a teacher. MCTC allowed me to expand my horizons and pursue what I was interested in. Don’t limit yourself based on what you may see or what you may hear.”

He encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the opportunities MCTC offers.

“Don’t be afraid to jump in with both feet. I think MCTC is a great place to figure out what you’d like to do for a career,” Bechanan remarked. “You don’t always necessarily have to go somewhere else—you can learn quite a few things that will equip you just as well as I’ve been equipped in my position.”

The MCTC Alumni Association is proud to celebrate Logan Bechanan’s accomplishments and his courage to carve his own path. His success story is a testament to the power of early college opportunities and the limitless potential for MCTC students to forge their own futures.
