Headshot photo of Logan.Sheila Logan always believed she was too old to go back to college, despite the persistent encouragement she received from her co-workers at Sterling Health Care in Mt. Sterling to take the leap.

At 53 years of age, Logan is thankful for that support, because she can add “Maysville Community & Technical College grad” to her list of achievements.

Logan earned a degree in Medical Information Technology (MIT) from MCTC last fall and said she wouldn’t be where she is in her career today had it not been for the opportunity to pursue an education.

“MCTC gave me the tools, resources, encouragement, and support that I needed for this role,” she said. “I love my job, my team and the opportunities that have been presented since starting my MCTC journey.”

Logan currently serves as an executive assistant at Sterling Health Care.

“Gaining this opportunity was a huge confidence booster and has allowed me to gain hands-on experience in many situations that you are not prepared for,” she said.

Logan says she chose MCTC because she needed a flexible school schedule that would work with her job duties.

“I had heard many positive testimonies from students and alumni,” Logan said. “Being local, MCTC was a perfect fit for me.”

Jennifer Ouderkirk, MIT program coordinator attributes Logan’s perseverance and work ethic to her success.

“Sheila stands as an inspiring figure for fellow students, demonstrating that success is attainable with resilience and commitment. I wholeheartedly applaud Sheila for her outstanding achievements and the positive impact she has left on our academic community,” she said.

MIT graduates prepare medical records and reports, maintain files, order supplies, perform accounting procedures, work with medical insurance and coding, and receive patients in a variety of health care settings. Laboratory and classroom experiences are combined to prepare graduates for careers in health care facilities.

The MIT program can be completed 100% online.
