Maysville Community and Technical College is proud to announce the receipt of $220,000 from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) for a unique partnership with University of Kentucky St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

The funding will benefit students who want to enroll in the respiratory therapy and physical therapy assistants programs at MCTC.

“MCTC is grateful for its partnership with UK St. Claire Regional Medical Center,” said Dr. Laura McCullough, president and chief executive officer of MCTC.  “Learn and earn collaborations such as these help improve the workforce pipeline for employers and students benefit from the monetary support while they are in the classroom.”

She continued, “Additionally, they have a guaranteed job waiting for them upon graduation.”

The funding from CPE will directly impact students enrolled in programs of critical workforce need and reward innovation and excellence among professional healthcare education and training programs.

“UK St. Claire is grateful to partner with Maysville Community and Technical College to support the exceptional Respiratory Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistants programs at MCTC,” said Donald H. Lloyd, president and chief executive officer of UK St. Claire.

He continued, “For nearly two decades, MCTC has provided outstanding professionals of all disciplines to our health system. The caliber and acumen of these students have greatly contributed to our success.”

Monies received were made possible through state appropriations to the Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund (HWIF), enacted by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2023.

“The awards we announced today are a win-win for Kentucky’s students, employers and patients,” said CPE President Aaron Thompson. “This innovative, public-private partnership will go a long way toward strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce, alleviating critical shortages in certain regions and areas of practice, and helping the state achieve better health outcomes overall.”
