It can be hard when a student is looking ahead to college, especially if they do not know what educational opportunities are available close to home.

Parents of a student are likely to want the best for them and their aspirations, but also want their student to be close to them.

With community college, students will be exposed to a variety of credential opportunities within the comfort of their hometown and the surrounding area.

Maysville Community and Technical College offers various courses that will help students to succeed after school at an affordable price while remaining close to home.

Jessica Kern, vice president of Enrollment and Student Services at MCTC, noted the benefit of community college being so close to home.

“Having a community college close to home gives students a more affordable option for higher education by saving on transportation and living expenses,” Kern began.

She continued, “It also makes it easier for them to balance school with work and family obligations, allowing for greater flexibility and support while pursuing their education.”

MCTC offers several degrees, diplomas, credentials, licensures and certificates.

With 23 different programs, MCTC offers curriculum for work fields in culinary, medical, education, blue-collar and more.

In addition to courses being offered close to home, MCTC’s tuition is ranked among the lowest in Kentucky. The college also offers scholarships, grants, loans and other financial aid to make tuition affordable for students.

Sandy Power, director of Financial Aid at MCTC, remarked on financial aid and the appeal of resources offered at MCTC.

“The majority of students at MCTC have enough Federal and State Financial Aid to cover the cost of their education,” Power explained. “It is an incredible opportunity for anyone seeking to change their life through education.”

She concluded, “It all starts with a visit to the Financial Aid Office, where our counselors will take the time to sit down with potential students and show them how affordable a college education can be.”

Of the scholarships offered, a student could also qualify for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship. By answering a few questions online, they can find out if they’re eligible for free tuition offered through the scholarship.
