The Dual Credit program at Maysville Community and Technical College empowers high school students to earn college credits while they are still completing their high school education.
MCTC student Connor Butler utilized the program to enhance his academic success and plan for his future. As a former Dual Credit student and 2024 graduate of Mason County High School, Connor shared his journey.
“I wanted to get a head start on earning college credits before I graduated high school and boost my GPA,” he said.
Enrolling in Dual Credit courses during high school can allow students to complete their associate degree faster while receiving a significant discount on tuition for these courses.
Connor’s positive experience with dual credit courses led him to attend MCTC full-time after he graduated high school.
"I liked how the classes were structured, and I already had a good chunk of hours completed," he explained.
The program allowed him to transition seamlessly into college-level coursework. MCTC also boasts the lowest tuition rate in Kentucky and a variety of scholarship and financial aid options - another fantastic reason to enroll full-time after completing Dual Credit courses.
Now as a full-time student, Connor appreciates the support systems available at the college.
“My professors have been incredibly helpful and easy to talk to,” Connor shared.
Small class sizes at MCTC allow students to connect personally with their instructors and receive any additional assistance they might need. Support from faculty and staff alike plays a crucial role in student success.
Looking ahead, Connor aspires to become a high school teacher and ultimately pursue a career in high school administration.
"MCTC has the classes to help shape my future," he affirmed.
For high school students contemplating their next steps, Connor offers valuable advice.
“Take dual credit classes now because it gives you a head start and prepares you for what you want to do in the future,” he concluded.
MCTC invites high school students to explore the benefits of dual credit courses.
