Maysville Community & Technical College (MCTC) proudly hosted the annual Kids College at its Maysville and Licking Valley campuses earlier this month.
Kids College offers various courses that are geared toward young people ages six through twelve. Each course offers hands-on learning and fun.
This year’s theme at the Licking Valley Campus (LVC) was “Crazy for Careers,” where campers learned about the multitude of career opportunities that are available to them.
Career sessions included culinary arts, construction, the arts, manufacturing, public service, and first responders.
“Seeing all the smiling faces and bouncing kiddos made all the hard work leading up to the week totally worth it,” said Carman Ratliff, Kids Camp Coordinator at the Licking Valley Campus. “I am thankful for such an amazing group of instructors and volunteers as well as the staff/faculty at MCTC for making our week a success.”
On the Maysville Campus, children ages five through eight enjoyed reading, Be a Chef, and art classes each day. Kids in the nine to thirteen-year-old classes chose three classes to attend each day. There were six classes per session to choose from. Options to choose from included creative crafts, Fish like a Pro, Mad about Science, cake decorating, cosmetology, and painting.
“Evey year, on the last day of camp, when the kids realize it's the last day there is always a few kids that express they are sad. That tells me they've had a good week,” said Gwyn Gallenstein, Kids Camp Coordinator at the Maysville Campus.
The four-day camp had over 200 participants.
