Maysville Community and Technical College exceeded its goal for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s (inaugural Giving Day, raising funds to support the student emergency fund and other scholarships.
On April 25, MCTC joined the other 15 KCTCS colleges in a 24-hour fundraiser. In a single day, MCTC raised $55,038 in support of the student emergency fund, MCTC’s Nursing Next Gen initiative, Gowns for Grads, and the construction of a welding lab for its Montgomery Campus.
The college can attribute the success of Giving Day to the support of 65 donors who contributed during the day-long festivities. Their gifts allow MCTC to help students who have the greatest need and challenges facing them as they pursue their education.
In a Fall 2022 financial wellness survey conducted by the college, 69% of MCTC students said they would have trouble getting $500 in cash or credit in an emergency. Just over 50% of students reported housing insecurity, and 23% of students had very low food security.
We are so thankful for our faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners for their willingness to make a difference in the lives of our students,” said Cara Clarke, Director of Institutional Advancement. “The generosity of our donors has a significant impact on student success both inside and outside the classroom.”
Of the contributions made, just over half were from alumni donors.
“The spirit of giving shown by our alumni is a reflection of the transformative power of education and the lasting impact it has on individuals and our communities as a whole,” Clarke said.
