MCTC Rowan Campus recognized as ‘Best LPN Program in Kentucky,’ Maysville Campus ranks sixth

LPN BadgeTwo Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) campuses have been recognized for their exemplary Practical Nursing (PN) programs.

The Rowan Campus and Maysville Campus were both recognized in the most recent list of the top ten “Best LPN Programs in Kentucky” by PracticalNursing.org. The study ranks the top ten programs in Kentucky using current and historical National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rates as the primary means to measure student support toward licensure and beyond.

The NCLEX is a nationwide standardized examination used by state regulatory boards to determine if recent graduates are prepared to become licensed as an entry-level nurse.

Rowan PN was ranked #1 in the study and Maysville PN was ranked #6.

The Rowan Campus has had a 100% pass rate of the NCLEX since 2017. The Maysville Campus had 100% last year adding to its nearly perfect NCLEX exam pass rate for its PN program.

“Having both MCTC Practical Nursing programs be recognized is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and the hard work of our students,” said Dr. Dana Calland, MCTC's Chief Academic Officer. “This recognition acknowledges the quality education and clinical training our PN students receive and solidifies our commitment to producing highly skilled and compassionate nurses who will make a significant impact in the healthcare industry.”

“Our nursing instructors at the Rowan and Maysville Campus’ have truly established a legacy of excellence,” says Associate Dean of Health Sciences Ginger Clarke. “We could not be more proud of them and our students who have worked incredibly hard to build this program to where it is today.”

According to the PracticalNursing.org website, rankings were determined based on the NCLEX pass rates for each of the 26 Kentucky statewide practical nursing programs that were reviewed.

Many state boards of nursing use the combined NCLEX exam pass rates for each school as one of the primary ways to approve or deny a school's ability to provide practical and vocational nursing education.

Carly Jacobs, a representative of PracticalNursing.org stated that NCLEX pass rates are one of the best ways to determine how well a school is preparing its students for a career in practical nursing, and that is why the organization chose to rank them in this manner.

“As an instructor, I cannot say enough good things about our students,” said Dawn Greenfield, Practical Nursing program coordinator. “They work hard in the classroom, practice skills constantly in the lab, and shine in their clinical experiences. They are extremely dedicated to bettering themselves and their futures.”

Acceptance in the PN program at MCTC is based on a selective admission process.

LPNs who choose to continue their education are encouraged to apply to MCTC’s LPN to RN online program, which admits every January.

PracticalNursing.org is a national organization based in Carlsbad, CA whose mission is to promote excellence in nursing by enabling current and future nurses with the education and career resources that they need to succeed.
