Breanna Copeland faced many obstacles during her time as a student at Maysville Community & Technical College (MCTC).
She says she got pregnant with her second child right after her first semester but decided to continue her education, even though she knew that going to college with two kids would be challenging.
She was accepted into the Practical Nursing (PN) program in 2018.
“During nursing school, I struggled mentally, because my student life and my home life weren’t easy,” she said.
On top of challenges in her own relationships, Copeland says she was also dealing with her parents’ divorce, but she refused to give up.
“Despite it all, with the help of my amazing teachers, who became more of my safe spaces and counselors, I graduated in 2019,” she said.
Copeland says she also passed her licensing exam on the first attempt. She now is a long-term care nurse and says she wouldn’t trade it for the world.
She said it was the guidance of MCTC faculty and staff that helped make it possible.
The PN program is offered at both the Maysville and Rowan Campuses.
Acceptance in the program is based on a selective admission process.
Students who choose to continue their education are encouraged beyond the PN to apply to MCTC’s LPN to RN online program, which admits every January.
