1. Identify Topic

In some classes, you may be assigned a topic or subject for a research paper. In others, you choose the topic yourself.

 

Having trouble identifying a topic?

• Consult your instructor for assistance.
  
  
• Ask a librarian.
  
  
• Use library resources, i.e. Encyclopedia Britannica Online.
  
  
• Use a trusted internet source, i.e. Librarians' Internet Index.
  
  

After selecting a topic, make a list of all the KEYWORDS or phrases related to the subject. Your keywords will be useful during your research process.
