The Associate Degree Nursing program prepares graduates to provide and manage patient care and to become valuable members within the discipline of nursing. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The RN program is offered on the Maysville Campus and the Licking Valley Campus in Cynthiana.


LPN to RN Online

The LPN to RN online method of delivery has been especially designed to meet the needs of the working LPN. The online delivery method allows the nurse to continue working and attend classes at a time that is convenient to him/her. Students will be required to come to the Maysville Campus every other Friday for Clinical/Lab. The dates will be announced early to allow the nursing student ample time to plan their work schedule accordingly.

In order for the LPN to ask for admission to the online method of delivery (Please also refer to admissions requirements on the nursing page) he/she must have and an unencumbered LPN license and the following courses with minimum grade of C;
LPN to RN MUST attend October Pre-Admission Conference Prior to January Admission:

BIO 137 (Anatomy and Physiology I)

BIO 139 (Anatomy and Physiology II)

MAT 150 (College Algebra)

PSY 110 (Intro to Psychology)

PSY 223 (Developmental Psychology)


Admission Requirements

Acceptance into the Associate Degree RN Program is based on a selective admissions process. Requirements are as follows:

  • current application for admission to a KCTCS college
  • official transcript from each college or university previously attended
  • COMPASS or ACT scores
  • Red Cross or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider level CPR certification required prior to first day of class if admitted to program (online certification not acceptable)
  • proof of active status on the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry
  • LPN school transcripts (if applicable)
  • successful completion of program pre-requisites with a grade of "C" or higher
  • attendance at one pre-admission conference per admission cycle (academic year)
  • LPN to RN  MUST attend October Pre-Admission Conference
  • Watch mid August for 2018-19 dates of the Pre-Admission Conferences:

  • official scores from the National League for Nursing (NLN) Pre-RN Admission Exam

 NLN Exam FAQs

  • GPA of 2.00 or better in all college coursework (not just one class)
  • all college and program admission requirements must be on file by March 1 of each year to be considered for admission to NSG 101 in the fall semester
  • LPNs entering the program in the spring semester must have all college and program admission requirements on file by November 1
  • documentation of computer literacy as defined by KCTCS

Length of Program

Upon acceptance to the program, Associate Degree Nursing students will spend four (4)semesters completing the core curriculum.

There are many job opportunities as a Registered Nurse that include, but are not limited to, hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, child care centers, educational facilities, physician's offices, etc.
