Instructor Trevor ApplegateMaysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) is proud to announce that Trevor Applegate from the college’s Skills U (Adult Education) Department has been named Kentucky Skills U Instructor of the Year.

The Skills U office at the college is responsible for helping students earn a passing grade on their General Education Development exam, more commonly known as a G.E.D.

Applegate’s honor is due in part to his initiative over the past year and the changes he knew he needed to make to keep his students progressing toward their goals during the pandemic.

“Trevor was named our Distance Learning Lead at the beginning of the pandemic,” says Sherry Stacy, Director Maysville Skills U. “He was the first on our team to embrace technology and remote testing and does an exemplary job of keeping his students engaged,” Stacy adds.

It was also noted that Trevor is an excellent co-worker and is the first to come to the aid of his less tech-savvy peers.

The MCTC Skills U office service area covers Bracken, Fleming, Harrison, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Robertson counties. Of which Applegate is responsible for students in Harrison, Mason, Nicholas and Robertson counties.

In addition to taking a personal interest in his students, Applegate also helps prepare his pupils for life after their G.E.D. and quite often that means continuing their educational journey. Currently, about 75% of Trevor’s students go on to pursue a degree at MCTC or another regional college or university.

If you or someone you know is looking to earn a G.E.D. visit to learn how Trevor or the team at MCTC Skills U can help you reach your educational goals.
