Maysville – Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC)will host its second annual Trade Wars Competition at the Rowan Campus on May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The competition is designed to give regional high school and Area Technology Center students the opportunity to compete in various categories related to the skilled trades industry.

“After the success of last year’s event, we decided to expand the competition this year to include a wider variety of trades,” says Nick Pecco, event coordinator and Welding Instructor at the Rowan Campus. “We are expecting approximately five hundred students at this year's Trade Wars. We can’t wait to let them show off their skills,” he adds.

Trade Wars 2020 will have competition categories in the following areas: Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Air Conditioning Technology, Allied Health, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Diesel Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, and Welding Technology.

Trade Wars also provides a spotlight for careers in Kentucky’s workforce where there is currently a shortage of workers. “The students who graduate from our technical programs have no problems starting a career after graduation,” says Pecco. “These positions are high-wage, high-demand jobs and our placement rate for our grads is very strong. We receive calls from employers weekly looking for people with these skills who can go to work immediately,” he says.

The event will conclude with an awards ceremony providing recognition to the top teams in each category. In addition to bragging rights and scholarships, contest winners can expect a variety of tools and prizes related to their trade.
