The event featured two keynote presentations. Dr. Roger Rennekamp, Associate Dean and Director of Ohio State University Extension and Dr. Elida Espinoza, Entomologist with EnviroFlight LLC spoke from the main stage in the Fields Auditorium to kick off the evening.

“Farm & Family Night is more than an event to learn the emerging trends in agri-business,” says Brittany Corde, MCTC Director of Workforce Solutions.  “It’s a night to celebrate farming families and recognize how important they are to our local economy. We are grateful to Meadowview Regional Medical Center and all our sponsors who help make the event possible as well as the community that comes out and makes this one of our favorite events of the year.”

Participants were provided a program of over thirty concurrent sessions on subjects related to farm and home. Classes included cattle management, alternative crops, technology, horticulture, wildlife management, sustainable agriculture, beekeeping, family and consumer science, home management, health issues and more.

Sessions for youth focus on farm safety, robotics, nutrition and STEM.  A 4-H Livestock Extravaganza allows youth to acquire 2 of the 6 livestock hours required each year while demonstrating their knowledge of livestock in a fun and interactive way.

Over 50 exhibitors from area agricultural and related businesses round out the event. Attendees registered to win a variety of door prizes that were given away during the opening session, and at the conclusion of the evening. The grand prize, an Echo Chainsaw donated by Rural King, was won by Addison Cowan.

A “Milk and Cookie” break featuring all varieties of milk sponsored by Dairy Farmers of America and cookies baked by the MCTC Culinary Program was a highlight of the night as always.
