Connie Sweeney is a former student and graduate of Maysville Community College. Sweeney received her first degree in Business Administration in 1988. She graduated from the associate degree nursing program in 1997. In June 2009, Connie was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She has since has a double mastectomy and undergone chemotherapy. Sweeneys last chemotherapy treatment was on January 4, 2010. Her latest blood work on January 22, 2010 shows that she is cancer free and her reconstruction surgery is set for March 4, 2010.

Brandi Garrison, Katie Hopkins, and Timothy Lewis are putting together an event to raise funds in honor of Sweeney for the Susan G. Komen 3Day event being held in Chicago on August 6-8, 2010. The event consists of three days and sixty miles of walking. Sweeney has put together Team F.I.G.H.T to participate in the event. Garrison is a member of the team and will be walking alongside her courageous aunt.

The fundraiser will be held on April 3, 2010 at The Augusta Junction in Augusta, Kentucky. Several local bands and artists, including Jacks Attic, Papa Shango and friends, coordinated by Tim Lewis, will be donating their time and music in honor of finding a cure. Door prizes and raffles from local business will be given away. There will be a prize given for the best PINK costume and a split the pot. Doors open at 7:30pm and music and festivities will begin at 8:30pm.

Donations can be made by contacting Katie Hopkins or Brandi Garrison. Also, donations can be made online directly to Team F.I.G.H.T on the Susan G. Komen 3day website.
