MCTC Nursing Graduate Receives National Award

image of Brenda RevealNursing may often seem to be a thankless job, but one family has set out to change that. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of Patrick Barnes who passed away after being diagnosed with idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP), an immune system disorder.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, created to recognize and thank nurses nationwide, was recently presented to Brenda Reveal who is a recent graduate of the Associate Degree in Nursing program at Maysville Community and Technical College.

A West Union, Ohio native, Reveal is a nurse in the Emergency Department at Southwest Regional Medical Center in Georgetown, Ohio. She was nominated for the award after her involvement in successfully treating a patient who was experiencing an acute myocardial infarction, which is a heart condition.

We were able to get the patient from the door of the hospital and complete the necessary procedures to save his heart in 87 minutes, said Reveal. The national average is 90 minutes.

Reveal was nominated by a co-worker who is also a graduate of MCTC.

I think my co-worker should have been the one to receive the award, said Reveal. But, I am honored to have been selected.
