MCTC to offer Associate in Applied Science degree in Culinary

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents approved an Associate in Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts for Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) at the June 17 meeting in Paducah, Kentucky.

The approval of this degree will allow MCTC to offer an AAS degreewith four options, three diploma programs and four new certificates. Until this time, MCTC only had approval to offer three certificate programs in culinary arts. The associate degree program is scheduled to start in the fall 2011 semester.

Even in difficult economic times our college continues to have a vision and move forward, said MCTC President Ed Story. With this program addition we can offer students new opportunities that havent been available through our college previously. Now students can get the full range of education needed to fulfill their culinary career goals.

The 60-67 credit hour AAS Culinary Arts program is designed to prepare students for careers in culinary arts, food and beverage management, restaurant management, catering, institutional food service and as professional chefs. The program uses the teaching philosophy and competencies of the American Culinary Federation.

The Culinary Arts Program currently operates at the MCTC Institute of Culinary Arts located at 22 East Third Street in Maysville, Kentucky. It is scheduled to move to its permanent home in the Cox Building in the fall of 2012.
