MCTC is holding three pre-admission conferences in March for students interested in enrolling in the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program at the Maysville Campus. MCTC will admit a new cohort of MLT students in August and space is limited to only 12 students.

The MLT program was launched in August 2013 and the first cohort of students will graduate in May. Because of the demand for technicians, we anticipate upon completion of the program, our graduates will be successful in obtaining employment fairly quickly, said Michelle Thoroughman, program coordinator.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, MLTs are ranked among the top 20 Kentucky occupations with the most annual job openings and top 20 fastest growing occupations in Kentucky (that generally require an associates degree). While hospitals are expected to be the leading employers of medical laboratory technicians, job growth in medical and diagnostic laboratories and physicians offices is also expected to increase.

MLTs play an essential role in diagnosing diseases and conditions by collecting various specimens from patients. Laboratory results currently contribute to 70-80% of the diagnostic information used by healthcare providers.

Pre-admission conferences will be held on the Maysville Campus on the following dates and attendance at one conference is required for admission into the MLT program.

Monday, March 2nd from 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. in room A-306

Thursday, March 19th from 4:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. in the Crockett Auditorium

Monday, March 30th from 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. in room A-306
