Maysville Institute of Culinary Arts to Offer Wine Series

Maysville, KY (September 15, 2011). Maysville Community and Technical Colleges Maysville Institute of Culinary Arts will be hosting three Friday evenings of studying, discussing, and tasting wine. The Wine Series will take place September 23, October 28, and November 18 at Maysville Institute of Culinary Arts located at 22 EastThird Street in Maysville. Each session will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost to attend will be $25 per evening or $60 for the series.

Bill Sanders, CEO and founder of Crush + Press, a company dedicated to sharing the flavors and benefits of handcrafted extra virgin olive oil, fine wines and gourmet food, will serve as speaker and moderator for each evening. Sanders has made numerous appearances on TV, radio, and podcast programs. He has studied at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone professional wine studies program in Napa Valley, earned Master-Level Certifications for the Rhone and Provence wine regions from the French Wine Society, and served as chair of the 2010 National French Wine Society Conference at the French Embassy in Washington, DC.

The series will begin with Wine 101: How to Enjoy and Better Understand Wine on September 23. Participants will learn how to taste and talk about wine. Four to six wines will be served for your tasting pleasure and education. On October 28, participants will discuss New World vs. Old World Wines. Wines from Europe, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa will be presented. Participants will taste and compare single varietal wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The series will end on a festive note with Wines for the Holidays on November 18. All colors of wines and a variety of flavor styles will be explored, including bubbly, white, ros (not to be confused with blush or white zinfandel), sweet, dry, and red wines.
