MCTC campuses hold first ever open house for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program
MAYSVILLE, Ky. (July 12, 2017) – All four campuses of the Maysville Community and Technical College (MCTC) will hold an open house on July 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. (EST) to share valuable information on the new Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program. MCTC has campuses in Cynthiana, Mt. Sterling, Morehead and Maysville.
“We are opening our doors to help anyone interested in learning how they can take advantage of an opportunity to get a tuition-free certificate or diploma in a high-demand career with the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program,” said Dr. Steve Vacik, president of MCTC. “This program will help expand our skilled workforce for employers, grow Kentucky’s economy and provide students with a free path to a great career.”
Gov. Matt Bevin created the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program late last year to help Kentuckians who have not yet earned an associate’s degree afford an industry-recognized certificate or diploma. Qualifying areas for the 2017-2018 year are healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics, business or information technology and construction.
The Work Ready Scholarship Program requires that students be Kentucky residents with a high school diploma or GED who haven’t yet earned an associate’s degree. Their grade-point average must be at least a 2.0, and eligibility ends as soon as they obtain their first associate’s degree, have the scholarship for four semesters, or reach 32 credit hours. There are no income or age limits, but prospective students must apply for federal financial aid before they are eligible to apply for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship.
“We’re talking about getting students 32 credit hours for free that will launch them into one of Kentucky’s top five high-demand workforce sectors,” said MCTC Chief Enrollment and Student Services Officer Jessica Kern. “Knowing this was a new scholarship program, we felt the need to offer information at all our campuses, and it is extremely exciting for everyone involved.”
There is no registration required to attend the open houses, which will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 at each MCTC campus. The campuses are at 319 Webster Ave. in Cynthiana, 201 Calk Ave. in Mt. Sterling, 609 Viking Dr. in Morehead and 1755 U.S. Highway 68 in Maysville.
In addition to information about the Work Ready Scholarship Program, the open houses will also have staff available to help with admission applications, registration for classes, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and any other questions about MCTC.
