What is Cosmetology?
If you enjoy helping others look and feel their best and enjoy working with a wide range of people, cosmetology may be the career for you. Cosmetologists provide hair, scalp, facial, nail and other personal care services. The cosmetology industry in Kentucky is regulated by the state Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists. Applicants must meet board requirements for admission, and graduates must pass a state board examination to become a licensed practitioner.
What are my career choices?
You may work as a stylist or cosmetology instructor. Cosmetologists are employed by beauty salons, spas, stores that sell cosmetics, and nursing and other residential-care homes. Many cosmetologists start their own businesses. Instructors are employed at cosmetology schools.
Length of Program
You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status.
