Emergency Notification

Maysville Community and Technical College uses the Safety Notification Alert Process (SNAP) to send out notifications for severe weather, closings, and emergencies. SNAP notifications come to you as text messages on your mobile phone. The Maysville Community & Technical College weather policy has full details about how inclement weather situations are handled. 

Weather Closing Policy

During inclement weather, Maysville Community & Technical College (MCTC) makes delay and cancellation decisions as necessary.  If classes are delayed or cancelled, the campus will be closed.  Faculty determine how to make up missed classes. 

  • A decision to delay or cancel day classes will be made by 6:00 a.m. or as needed later during the day.  (NOTE to Health Sciences students - please follow program guidelines.)

  • A decision to cancel evening classes, offered at 4:30 p.m. or after, will be made by 3:00 p.m. 

There are five possible announcements regarding weather closings:

  • Delay: 2-hour delay – 8:00 a.m. classes cancelled, 9:30 a.m. classes begin at 10:00 a.m. Offices open at 10:00 a.m.

  • Delay: 4-hour delay - 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. classes are cancelled. Offices open at 12:00 p.m.

  • Cancellation: Classes will be cancelled.  The campus will not open for business.

  • Cancellation: Classes will be cancelled as of announced time. The campus will close.

  • Cancellation: Evening classes are cancelled.  The campus will not be open after 4:30 p.m.

Here are ways to get delay or cancellation information:

  • For all campuses, call the campus number and select weather closing announcement.
  • For all campuses, go to the college website home page.  All announcements will be placed on the college home page.
  • Listen to radio or TV stations as shown below.  Continue to listen to radio stations while in transit for updated announcements.  Listen carefully for the campus name.  Due to distance between campuses, closure of one campus does not mean that all campuses are closed.

  • Effective February 15, 2013, your preferred phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses entered into the KCTCS Self-Service Student or Employee Information Center will also be used for SNAP messages during an emergency at the college where you are enrolled or employed. The same contact information that is used to inform you of academic/employment questions or concerns will now also be used to notify you if there is a weather emergency, safety threat or campus closing/delay.
