Are Distance Learning Courses for Me?
If you are thinking about taking a distance learning course but aren’t sure if it is right for you, watch this video! The video will help you evaluate whether or not you are a good candidate for distance learning courses. It includes a short self-assessment for you to take to and the results are merely for you to use as a guide to determine your readiness in an online course . How to Login to Blackboard
Your instructor tells you that all assignments are located on blackboard, but you are asking “what is blackboard?”  KCTCS uses a course management system called Blackboard.  This video will walk you through the steps of logging into Blackboard for the first time.

How to Change Your Password
You will periodically get a notification from our IT department that your password is about to expire and you will be required to change it. So how do you do that? This video will walk you through the steps necessary to change your password.

How to Contact Your Instructor
You have signed up for a distance learning course, but you don’t know how to reach your instructor.  This video will walk you through the steps of contacting your instructor.

How to Post to a Discussion Board
Your instructor has given you an assignment and wants you to post your answers to a discussion board, so how do you do that? This video will walk you through the steps of posting to a discussion board in Blackboard.

How to Login to a Wimba Classroom
Many distance learning course instructors are using Wimba classroom. A Wimba classroom is an online meeting place where instructors and students interact. This video will walk you through the steps of logging into a Wimba classroom and participating in live discussions.

How to Complete an Online Test
Your instructor has posted a test for your class online, so how do you take it? This video will walk you through the steps of taking an online test and provide you with tips for online testing.

How to Take a Proctored Exam
Your instructor has informed you that all tests for the class will be proctored by the testing center.  Where is the nearest testing center? How will you arrange to take a test there?  This video will walk you through the steps of scheduling a proctored exam, the location of approved KCTCS testing sites, and your responsibilities as a student regarding proctored exams.

How to Check Your Blackboard Gradebook
You are curious about your grades for a course but don’t know where to find them. This video explains how you can check grades in your Blackboard Gradebook!  This is where the instructor posts your grades, and we suggest that you check it often to monitor your progress. The information in the gradebook can only be viewed by you and your instructor.  So don’t worry, because other students in the class will not have access to your grades.

What is MLA Format?
Your instructor has assigned a paper and they want it in MLA format. This video walks you through the steps of formatting your paper and gives you information on how to download templates in MLA style.

What is APA Format?
Your instructor has assigned a paper and they want it in APA format. This video walks you through the steps of formatting your paper and gives you information on how to download templates in APA style.

How to use Microsoft Word
You may be new to using the computer, or maybe you just need a quick refresher course on word processing software. This video will assist you with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word.
