March 29, 2014. Register by March 20, 2014. Fee $45. 9am-3:30pm. Class 1: Domestic Violence and the Effect on Children. Domestic Violence is about POWER AND CONTROL. Over 22% of women surveyed, compared to 7.4% of men, reported being physically assaulted by a current or former partner in their lifetime. Why do child care providers need to know about domestic violence? How will learning about domestic violence help me do my job? Domestic Violence, a training for child care providers and endorsed by the Division of Child Care, will look at the different areas of domestic violence specifically; characteristics of the abuser, characteristics of the victims and the effects of domestic violence on children. The training will identify possible domestic violence situations and explore mandatory reporting and resources for families. Class 2: Substance Exposed Infants. Review characteristics of addiction, biases surrounding substance abuse, commonly abused substances, characteristics of substance exposed infants, outlines how to soothe infants-including safe swaddling techniques, and discusses provider roles of support. Class 3: Curriculum Planning for Infants and Toddlers. This class looks closely at the five domains of child development and developmental milestones and helps you become more creative with toys, activities and everyday items you already have in your setting. We will learn how to form goals based on the individual needs of the child. We will look at long range planning as well as a typical weekly plan. Helpful supplemental handouts will be given as resource materials. Class will be held at the Licking Valley Campus Extension, Harrison Square.
