MCTC Hosting Energy Blast Event
An Energy Blast event at Maysville Community and Technical College is currently being planned by members of the MCTC Sustainability Committee. The first-time energy fair will take place at the Maysville Campus on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 4-8 p.m.
April Haight, director of MSU Environmental Education Center, will be the main guest speaker. Ms. Haight serves as the MSU region’s Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment coordinator and is involved as a trainer and volunteer for Licking River Watershed Watch and the Rowan County Recycling Center.
The theme of Energy Blast is “Conserve, Save and Sustain” and sessions will focus on money-saving practices and healthy alternatives for area residents. Energy-related topics such as recycling, environmental conservation and preservation, alternative energy options, local power alternatives and agriculture and gardening will be discussed during the sessions. The energy fair will also offer children’s sessions and informational exhibits with regional organizations. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered.
“Families within our communities are curious about small and large-scale company products and how they are produced. They are already exploring various energy-saving practices and they want to know more. There are energy options and alternatives on the market now that can serve as sources for fuels and products. During Energy Blast, residential home owners will be able to gather information from larger energy producers and companies who are committed to improving sustainable practices within our community,” said Carrie Taylor, MCTC associate professor and horticulture coordinator, Workforce Solutions. Taylor is chairing the committee organizing the Energy Blast event.
Anyone interested in presenting a session can contact Justin Weiss at 606-759-7141, ext. 66128. Any local organizations interested in providing an informational exhibit can contact Carla Redden at 606-759-7141, ext. 66190. For general information about Energy Blast, please contact Taylor at 606-759-7141, ext. 66232.
